ON13 Bjästa-Umeå

13th stage from Oekene to the North Cape: from Bjästa to Umeå, 163 kilometers and 1258 meters of altitude. Hilly ride often through forests and along lakes. After about 60 km you will encounter 17 kilometers of well-rideable gravel road with a short but very steep section at the end. Only the last 100 m are difficult to tackle with a racing bike.

Past Flärke, you leave Västernorrland and reach the province of Västerbotten County. Halfway you ride for a distance along the Gulf of Bothnia.

The city of Umeå in the province of Västerbotten County is the largest city in the Swedish region Norrland. The city has about 76,000 inhabitants. Umeå has been one of the fastest growing cities in Sweden for decades. The city began to grow particularly rapidly after 1965, the year the university located in the city was founded. The city is known in Sweden as the 'birch city' because there are many avenues with birch trees. The river Ume älv flows into the Gulf of Bothnia near Umeå.
