ON14 Umeå-Skelleftea

14th stage from Oekene to the North Cape: from Umeå to Skellefteå. Very beautiful rural and undulating roads 132 kilometers and 832 meters in altitude. The first part is more often on an upward slope, in the second part it goes more often on a downward slope.

The city Skellefteå is located in Västerbotten County and has about 32,000 inhabitants. The city is situated on the Skellefte River, after which the city is named. It is believed that Skellefteå was already inhabited around 1000 AD by the Sami people and possibly also by the Finnish population. In the 14th century, attempts were already made to convert the inhabitants around Skellefteå to Christianity. Norrland was, however, only converted to Christianity a few hundred years after the rest of Sweden, as northern locations like Skellefteå were still unexplored territory. The city itself is very young, and in fact, one of the youngest in Norrland.
