Kaaterskill Falls is the highest waterfall in the state of New York. We are surprised about this ourselves, because we thought that this honor would go to the world famous Niagara Waterfalls. With 79 meters, Kaaterskill Falls is indeed much higher than the more famous state-mate who is 'barely' 51 meters. The waterfall consists of two floors. Every part of the waterfall is impressive, all the more so because you can get very close.
Kaaterskill Falls is located in the Catskills, as it is called by New Yorkers. It is a nature reserve about 150 kilometers north of the city. It is therefore no wonder that this region was a tourist attraction for the richer class in the mid-20th century. On weekends they drove their cars out of the city to escape the crowds. In the meantime, tourism has been pushed back.
