In pre-Hispanic times, areas such as Barranco del Infierno and Barranco del Rey were inhabited in Adeje, due to the need of the Guanches to establish their settlements near the canals of the ravines, in search of caves and water to survive.
After the conquest, the population of Tenerife settled inland and occupied the strip between 400 and 700 meters altitude, where living conditions and agricultural land were better . They also created terraced gardens on steep slopes so that they could be used for agriculture.
Later, construction of a canal began to bring water from the Barranco del Infierno to the lower parts.
