This bust was erected in memory of the Majorero poet Domingo Juan Manrique (1869-1934) on the initiative of the journalist Leoncio Rodríguez González.
It was created by the sculptor Miguel Márquez Peñate and inaugurated in the Plaza del Adelantado on January 27, 1952.
Domingo Juan Manrique was a Canarian writer , born in San Cristóbal de La Laguna in 1869 and died in Madrid in 1934.
Domingo Juan Manrique was a calligraphy teacher at the Institute of the Canary Islands. He was ugly and sentimental and took part in all the poetry competitions on the islands. The poem El Mencey de Abona is one of his most notable works.
