Following the severe wildfires in the High Fens, a strict access ban is in place across a large part of the nature reserve. To prevent outdoor enthusiasts from accidentally entering the danger zone, RouteYou has highlighted the restricted area in red on all maps and node networks.
Although the worst fires have been put out, the situation in the High Fens remains delicate. Flare-ups, cleanup operations, and the use of heavy equipment and firefighting helicopters make the area dangerous for visitors right now. A emergency decree temporarily bans all access for hikers, cyclists, horseback riders, and trail runners.
Clear guidance on the map
At the request of local emergency services and police, RouteYou has mapped out the exact boundaries of the closed area. The affected region is immediately recognizable on our platform as a red-highlighted zone labeled 'High Fens restricted zone'
When you plan a route or check an existing one that goes through this area, you'll instantly see where the path is blocked. Regional roads around the perimeter (such as the N68, N672, and N676) generally remain open to through traffic unless posted otherwise locally.
Pick a safe alternative
We ask all RouteYou users to follow local guidance and strictly avoid the red zone. This gives nature a chance to recover and allows emergency teams to work safely.
