Description by the author

One of the top three destinations on Tenerife.

But this very busy route was closed between 2010 and 2015 due to several accidents, some fatal, caused by falling rocks. Even after the reopening in 2015, another fatal accident occurred, which led to a reconditioning of the route, the introduction of surveillance , mandatory helmet use (available for rent at the entrance) and a maximum capacity of 300 visitors per day. Reservations in advance are recommended.

Due to the danger of falling stones, it is recommended to do the last part of the walk to the waterfall in one go without a longer break. This takes approximately 1 hour.

There is a car park at the bottom of Calle de Molinos , in the center of Adeje. Accessible by public transport (line 447) to the av. de la Constitucion (800m from the entrance).

After the necessary instructions, we follow the path that shows itself. There are information boards everywhere.

The first viewpoint is at the Mirador de Adeje with a view of the town to the sea. The gorge is still wide here and the vegetation is adapted to the drought.

Continuing along the Bailadero de las Brujas, where the witches danced, and the sharp bend of La Curva, we arrive at El Gran Mirador from where we get an exceptional panoramic view of the gorge.

The beautiful path now becomes narrower and vegetation begins to appear . We arrive at La Acequia Larga, the irrigation canal that has been so important for the development of Adeje.

We reach the riverbed, which is usually nothing more than a small stream... Further along La Cogedera there is a kind of first aid box. There may also be a watchman here who will point out that the remainder of the walk can be dangerous due to falling stones, and that taking a break is not recommended. A picnic can therefore still happen here.

The narrower and rocky path crosses the stream several times via a wooden bridge . The next landmark on the route is El Antiguo Castaño (the Old Chestnut Tree). The gorge is now very narrow and we usually walk in the shade. The vegetation makes everything wonderfully beautiful.

Finally we arrived at La Cascada! The waterfall is the highest waterfall on the route and one of the most beautiful points. The path emerges between large rock walls and the place is charming . The water makes its way between the large boulders and flows in a spectacular way!

At this point it is no longer possible to continue, so we must return along the same path.
