En la década de 1970, se demolieron casas y fábricas a lo largo de decenas de metros de ancho y medio kilómetro de largo para construir el metro. Molenbeek se recuperó muy lentamente y permaneció como una ‘herida abierta’ durante décadas. No fue hasta principios de este siglo que la demolición se borró por completo con hermosos parques, apartamentos y edificios gubernamentales.
