El pintoresco beguinaje existe probablemente desde el siglo XIII y es uno de los tres beguinajes en West-Vlaanderen junto a Brujas y Kortrijk. En 1914, el beguinaje también se hundió en la violencia de la guerra y las beguinas desaparecieron para siempre de la imagen de la ciudad de Diksmuide. Sin embargo, el beguinaje fue reconstruido en el estilo original. Desde 1990, viven allí personas adultas con discapacidad mental. Durante los días de semana, ofrecen en la pequeña tienda "la casa de la señorita Sybille" bonitos regalos a la venta.
