El subsuelo de Caín está compuesto de piedra caliza. Esta piedra caliza tiene la característica de que a veces se disuelve en agua (lo opuesto de lo que sucede en tu cafetera). Debido a las disoluciones de esa piedra caliza en el subsuelo, aquí se producen regularmente hundimientos. Estos hundimientos son conocidos como dolinas. Así se formó un ejemplo espectacular de una dolina el 17 de mayo de 1979. De repente, había un pozo de 10 m de diámetro y 10 m de profundidad.
