Aproximadamente en 1300 se construyó en Oostkerke una torre residencial de ladrillo fortificada. A finales del siglo XIV había un "Nederhof" y un "Opperhof", ambos rodeados por fosos. El barón van der Elst hizo reformar un castillo en ruinas en 1938. Los muros fueron excavados nuevamente, el puente de acceso de piedra fue restaurado y se llevó a cabo la renovación del ala occidental en un elegante edificio en estilo renacentista. Además, se elevaron los cimientos anteriores de la muralla y los donjons, que sirven como decoración y camino en el jardín, diseñado por la paisajista holandesa Mien Ruys.
