En los bosques a la izquierda ves un claro arenoso. Hechtel era casi desforestado durante la Primera Guerra Mundial y estaba rodeado por un paisaje de dunas abierto. Las primeras plantaciones forestales a gran escala en esta región datan de justo antes de la Primera Guerra Mundial. El bosque de dominio Pijnven (situado al norte de aquí) fue plantado en 1904.
