Dans les forêts à gauche, vous voyez un endroit sableux ouvert. Hechtel était presque déboisé pendant la Première Guerre mondiale et entouré d'un paysage de dunes ouvert. Les premières grandes plantations forestières dans cette région datent d'ailleurs juste avant la Première Guerre mondiale. La forêt de domaine de Pijnven (située au nord d'ici) a été plantée en 1904.
