La Capilla de Amelgem fue asignada en 1155 por el obispo a la abadía de Grimbergen. Hasta 1247, Amelgem fue una parroquia independiente con una capilla de señorial y un hermoso dominio. Por decisión del obispo, Amelgem se convirtió en una iglesia subordinada de Meise y más tarde fue incorporada a Oppem. El edificio actual fue construido en estilo barroco, bajo el abad Outers en 1637. En 1830, la capilla fue restaurada a fondo. Actualmente, la capilla está fuera de servicio.
