De Kapel van Amelgem was in 1155 door de bisschop aan de abdij van Grimbergen toegewezen. Tot in 1247 was Amelgem nog een zelfstandige parochie met een hofkapel en een prachtig domein. Door een besluit van de bisschop werd Amelgem een ondergeschikte kerk van Meise en ze werd later bij Oppem gevoerd. Het huidige gebouw is opgetrokken in barokstijl, onder abt Outers in 1637. In 1830 werd de kapel grondig gerestaureerd. Momenteel is de kapel buiten gebruik.
