A las orillas del Escalda, en la frontera entre Flandes Occidental, Flandes Oriental y Henao se encuentran las marismas del Escalda de Flandes Occidental: praderas floridas, campos de juncos y bordes de madera a lo largo de las curvas del Escalda cortadas.
Las marismas se formaron al enderezar el Escalda. El brazo del Escalda cortado más conocido y quizás el más hermoso es la cortadura Marcel Deweer, pero todos tienen un gran valor natural y una rica fauna y flora. En algunas marismas puedes caminar por los senderos, otras solo se pueden ver desde el camino de navegación.
