Alle rive del fiume Schelda, al confine tra West-Vlaanderen, Oost-Vlaanderen e Hainaut si trovano le Scheldemeersen della West-Vlaanderen: prati fioriti, zone di canneto e margini boschivi lungo le anse tagliate del fiume Schelda.
Le meersen sono nate con il raddrizzamento del fiume Schelda. L'ansa più nota e forse anche la più bella è la coupure Marcel Deweer, ma tutte hanno un grande valore naturale e una fauna e flora ricche. In alcune meersen puoi camminare lungo i sentieri, altre possono essere viste solo dal sentiero di pesca.
