El ‘Beguinaje Princely Ten Wijngaarde’ con fachadas pintadas de blanco y un jardín tranquilo de monasterio fue fundado en 1245. En este pedazo de patrimonio mundial vivían antaño beguinas, mujeres emancipadas que, aunque eran laicas, llevaban una vida piadosa y célibe. Hoy en día, el Beguinaje es habitado por hermanas de la Orden de San Benito y mujeres solteras de Brujas. En la casa de las beguinas todavía se puede obtener una buena idea de cómo era la vida diaria en el siglo XVII.
