Le ‘Prinselijk Begijnhof Ten Wijngaarde’ avec ses façades peintes en blanc et son jardin de cloître apaisé a été fondé en 1245. Dans ce site du patrimoine mondial, vivaient autrefois des béguines, des femmes émancipées qui, bien qu'étant laïques, menaient néanmoins une vie pieuse et chaste. Aujourd'hui, le Begijnhof est habité par des sœurs de l'Ordre de Saint-Benoît et des femmes célibataires de Bruges. Dans la maison des béguines, vous pouvez encore avoir une bonne idée de la vie quotidienne au XVIIe siècle.
