Il ‘Begijnhof Principesco Ten Wijngaarde’ con le sue facciate dipinte di bianco e un tranquillo giardino monastico fu fondato nel 1245. In questo pezzo di patrimonio mondiale vivevano un tempo le beggine, donne emancipate che, sebbene fossero laiche, conducevano comunque una vita devota e celibe. Oggi il Begijnhof è abitato da suore dell'Ordine di San Benedetto e da donne single di Bruges. Nella casa delle Beggine si ha ancora un'idea chiara di come fosse la vita quotidiana nel XVII secolo.
