Het ‘Prinselijk Begijnhof Ten Wijngaarde’ met witgeschilderde gevels en verstilde kloostertuin werd gesticht in 1245. In dit stukje werelderfgoed leefden vroeger begijntjes, geëmancipeerde vrouwen die weliswaar leek waren, maar er toch een vroom en celibatair leven op na hielden. Vandaag wordt het Begijnhof bewoond door zusters van de Orde van Sint-Benedictus en alleenstaande Brugse vrouwen. In het Begijnenhuisje krijg je nog altijd een goed beeld van hoe het dagelijkse leven er in de 17de eeuw uitzag.
