Está rodeado por Vossem, Sterrebeek, Kortenberg / Leefdaal y Tervuren. Moorsel se considera administrativamente un distrito de Tervuren; nunca ha sido un municipio independiente. El pueblo original consistía principalmente en edificaciones lineales a lo largo de la Moorselstraat y la carretera Oudergemse. Más tarde se construyeron diversos barrios de villas alrededor del centro del pueblo. El lugar tiene tanto un carácter rural como de suburbio, con agricultura, villas y casas antiguas. Cerca del núcleo hay una gran área de bosque, el Moorselbos.
