Leyenda griega
Según una leyenda griega, Dios al momento de la creación le dio a todas las plantas un nombre. Cuando pensó que había terminado, un pequeño florecita azul gritó: "¡Oh Señor, no me olvides!". "Así te llamarás" dijo el Señor entonces.
Leyenda medieval
En la Edad Media había un caballero que paseaba con su amada a lo largo de un río. Al recoger un ramo de flores, cayó al agua debido al peso de su armadura. Mientras se ahogaba, lanzó el ramo de flores a su amada y gritó "No me olvides". Esta flor está asociada con el romanticismo y la tragedia y a menudo era llevada por mujeres como símbolo de fidelidad y amor eterno.
