"En la noche del 26 al 27 de abril, una flota aérea de 557 aeronaves fue enviada a Duisburgo para atacar objetivos en tierra. En el camino de regreso a su base en Langar (Reino Unido), el Lancaster I W4171 con el código de fuselaje "E-MJ" fue atacado por un caza nocturno alemán. El aparato se estrelló en los campos detrás de la Volmolenbaan.
Todos los miembros de la tripulación perdieron la vida en el accidente.
Las víctimas están enterradas en el cementerio Schoonselhof en Amberes."
