Esta iglesia tiene una larga historia de construcción, que comenzó en el siglo XIII bajo el reinado del conde Balduino IX. En el siglo XIV, el conde Lodewijk van Maele añadió la Capilla Condal. El interior de la iglesia está decorado en un rico estilo barroco del siglo XVII. La iglesia alberga importantes tesoros artísticos, como la Elevación de la Cruz de Anthony Van Dyck, los hermosos murales de los condes de Flandes y la estatua de Santa Catalina (¡una obra maestra reconocida!).
