Deze kerk kent een lange bouwgeschiedenis die begint in de 13de eeuw onder Graaf Boudewijn IX. In de 14de eeuw voegt Graaf Lodewijk van Maele de Gravenkapel toe. Het interieur van de kerk is in rijke barokstijl uitgevoerd in de 17de eeuw. De kerk bevat een aantal belangrijke kunstschatten met o.a. de Kruisoprichting van Antoon Van Dijck, de prachtige muurschilderingen van de graven van Vlaanderen en het beeld van de Heilige Catharina (erkend topstuk!).
Beleef 1302 en zijn Guldensporenslag, alsof je er zelf bij was, tijdens een klank- en lichtspel of aan de belevingstafel. Je komt er ook te weten waarom de leeuw symbool staat voor Vlaanderen.
