La ubicación de Buchenhofen se encuentra en el barrio residencial homónimo de Wuppertal, Buchenhofen, en el actual distrito de Elberfeld-West, en la frontera con Vohwinkel. Se sitúa al sur de la mansión Hammerstein, en la orilla derecha del Wupper.
La granja de Buchenhofen fue mencionada por primera vez en un documento en 1193. El noble Wilhelm von Limburg vendió su granja Buchenhofen en Sonnborn al monasterio de Gräfrath. La granja en sí era un feudo y permaneció en posesión del monasterio hasta su disolución en 1803. Se mencionó de nuevo en 1591 y 1612. A Buchenhofen le pertenecía la zona boscosa de 80 hectáreas conocida como Klosterbusch.
