La localité de Buchenhofen se trouve dans le quartier résidentiel éponyme de Wuppertal, Buchenhofen, de l'actuel district d'Elberfeld-Ouest, à la limite de Vohwinkel. Elle est située au sud de la maison seigneuriale de Hammerstein, sur le côté droit de la Wupper.
La ferme de Buchenhofen a été mentionnée pour la première fois en 1193 par écrit. Le noble Wilhelm von Limburg a vendu au monastère de Gräfrath sa ferme de Buchenhofen près de Sonnborn. La ferme elle-même était un fief et est restée en possession de ce monastère jusqu'à sa dissolution en 1803. D'autres mentions ont eu lieu en 1591 et 1612. Buchenhofen comprenait la zone forestière de 80 ha de Klosterbusch.
