Kleef (en alemán: Kleve) es una ciudad en el distrito de Kleef en el oeste del estado alemán de Renania del Norte-Westfalia, a diez kilómetros al sur del río Rin y no muy lejos de la frontera holandesa en Nijmegen y 's-Heerenberg. Además, Kleef se encuentra cerca de la ciudad alemana de Emmerik y del área boscosa de Reichswald. Kleef tiene 49.477 habitantes y una superficie de aproximadamente 98 km². La ciudad obtuvo los derechos de ciudad en 1242. El lugar se sitúa en la ladera de una morrena del periodo glacial. Esta morrena limita el valle del Rin. Una parte de Kleef es, por lo tanto, muy montañosa. El dialecto local es el Kleverlands o el Kleefs, una lengua regional que pertenece al neerlandés.
