En la batalla de Drakenburg el 23 de mayo de 1547, al norte de Nienburg/Weser, el ejército protestante de la Liga de Schmalkalden derrotó a las tropas imperiales del duque Erich II de Calenberg, quien solo pudo salvarse nadando a través del Weser. Antes, los protestantes ya habían perdido la Guerra de Schmalkalden debido a la derrota en la batalla de Mühlberg el 24 de abril de 1547. Como consecuencia de la batalla de Drakenburg, el norte de Alemania quedó libre de tropas imperiales, lo que fortaleció la posición del protestantismo.
