In de Slag bij Drakenburg op 23 mei 1547 ten noorden van Nienburg/Weser versloeg het protestantse leger van de Schmalkaldische Bond de keizerlijke troepen van Hertog Erich II van Calenberg, die zich alleen zwemmend door de Weser kon redden. Eerder hadden de protestanten door de nederlaag in de Slag bij Mühlberg op 24 april 1547 al de Schmalkaldische Oorlog verloren. Als gevolg van de Slag bij Drakenburg werd het noorden van Duitsland vrij van keizerlijke troepen, waardoor de positie van het protestantisme werd versterkt.
