La Fachhochschule Südwestfalen, con sede en Iserlohn y otros lugares en Hagen, Meschede, Soest y Lüdenscheid, es una universidad caracterizada por la ingeniería, la informática, así como por la gestión empresarial y agrícola.
El antecesor históricamente más antiguo de la Fachhochschule fue la escuela de oficios fundada por el político reformista prusiano Beuth el 1 de diciembre de 1824 en Hagen, para la cualificación para el Instituto Técnico Real de Berlín, de la que surgió más tarde la Escuela Estatal de Ingeniería en Mecánica y Electrotecnia y luego la Fachhochschule Märkische con sede en Iserlohn y los dos lugares de Iserlohn y Hagen.
