La Fachhochschule Südwestfalen con sede a Iserlohn e ulteriori sedi a Hagen, Meschede, Soest e Lüdenscheid è un'università caratterizzata da ingegneria, tecnologia dell'informazione, economia aziendale e agronomica.
Il predecessore storico più antico della Fachhochschule fu la scuola professionale fondata dal politico riformista prussiano Beuth il 1° dicembre 1824 a Hagen per la qualificazione per il Regio Istituto Tecnico di Berlino, da cui in seguito emerse la Scuola Statale di Ingegneria per l'Ingegneria Meccanica ed Elettrica e poi la Fachhochschule Märkische con sede a Iserlohn e le due sedi a Iserlohn e Hagen.
