El planetario de vuelo espacial "Sigmund Jähn" en la isla Peißnitz en Halle era un planetario medio con 130 asientos. El propietario fue la ciudad de Halle y se inauguró el 10 de noviembre de 1978, después de dos años de construcción. El planetario llevó el nombre en honor a Sigmund Jähn, el primer cosmonauta alemán.
Se utilizó el proyectores de planetario Spacemaster DP2 de los Carl-Zeiss-Werken en Jena; como el primero de su tipo, este se podía controlar manual y completamente de forma automática. El planetario también tenía un observatorio, equipado con un refractor Coudé, que fue adquirido de la Estación Astronómica Johannes Kepler de Halle-Kanena.
