El molino fue mencionado por primera vez en un documento del año 1305 por el duque Alberto el Groso. En la carta, el duque otorgó a la ciudad el derecho de moler. En ese momento, el molino era propiedad de los señores de Adelebsen. En 1371 fue comprado por la ciudad de Gotinga.
El molino se encuentra en el canal Leine y estaba fuera de la antigua muralla. Solo con la construcción de la muralla en 1541 fue incorporado a las estructuras defensivas de la ciudad, lo que permitió asegurar el suministro de la población en tiempos de guerra. La ciudad de Gotinga siguió arrendando el molino de forma continua. En el siglo XIV, el alquiler anual era de aproximadamente 18 marcos.
