En la esquina en Bochum, junto con la Gußstahlstraße, forma el barrio rojo de Bochum. La denominación habitual para la calle es Eierberg, Gurke, Riemenschleifer o Riemenwalzwerk.
El Märkische Sprecher informó en 1912 sobre los planes de la ciudad para permitir un “funcionamiento regulado de burdeles en las inmediaciones del centro de la ciudad” en la entonces calle Maarbrücker. Desde 1904, el barrio tenía un predecesor en Hamme con al menos ocho establecimientos de burdel a lo largo de las vías del tren en la calle Kurzen; las importantes discrepancias llevaron al desplazamiento.
