Nell'angolo di Bochum, insieme a Gußstahlstraße, si forma il quartiere a luci rosse di Bochum. La denominazione locale della strada è Eierberg, Gurke, Riemenschleifer o Riemenwalzwerk.
Il Märkische Sprecher riportò nel 1912 i piani della città di consentire un "funzionamento regolarizzato dei bordelli in prossimità immediata del centro città" lungo l'allora strada Maarbrücker. Un precursore del quartiere esisteva dal 1904 a Hamme con almeno otto bordelli lungo i binari sulla Kurze Straße; significativi conflitti portarono allo spostamento.
