Dans le coin à Bochum, avec la Gußstahlstraße, se trouve le quartier rouge de Bochum. La désignation locale de la rue est Eierberg, Gurke, Riemenschleifer ou Riemenwalzwerk.
Le Märkische Sprecher a rapporté en 1912 les plans de la ville pour permettre un « fonctionnement réglementé des bordels à proximité immédiate du centre-ville » sur l'ancienne Maarbrücker Straße. Un prédécesseur existait dans le quartier depuis 1904 à Hamme avec au moins huit établissements de prostitution le long des voies ferrées sur la Kurze Straße ; des conflits importants ont conduit à la relocalisation.
