In de winkel in Bochum vormt samen met de Gußstahlstraße het rosse buurt van Bochum. De plaatselijke naam voor de straat is Eierberg, Gurke, Riemenschleifer of Riemenwalzwerk.
De Märkische Sprecher meldde in 1912 over de plannen van de stad om een "gereguleerde bordeloperatie in de onmiddellijke nabijheid van het stadscentrum" op de toenmalige Maarbrücker Straße toe te laten. Een voorganger had de wijk sinds 1904 in Hamme met minstens acht bordelbedrijven langs de spoorrails aan de Kurze Straße; aanzienlijke onenigheden leidden tot verplaatsing.
