El observatorio "Bruno-H.-Bürgel" Sohland/Spree se encuentra en el sur del distrito de Bautzen, en Sohland an der Spree, en Hohberg, y está nombrado en honor al "astrónomo obrero" Bruno H. Bürgel.
En 1953, los sohlandeses Friedrich Uhmann, Edmund Grundert y Heinz Klötzke comenzaron a construir un telescopio reflector de Newton en el taller de la empresa Schicktanz durante su tiempo libre.
Una vez que se encontró un lugar de observación adecuado, artesanos locales construyeron de forma gratuita un edificio de cúpula para el instrumento en un período de tres años. La inauguración fue el 13 de octubre de 1963.
