El castillo de murciélagos de Weißig se encuentra cerca de Hermsdorf, en Sajonia, a lo largo del curso superior del Spree y al borde del área boscosa de Driewitz-Milkeler Heiden. Weißig, donde se ubica el castillo en el borde del pueblo, está aproximadamente a un kilómetro de Hermsdorf.
El documento más antiguo data de 1469, cuando se menciona el lugar como "Weissigke". La cercana Eichberg fue un escenario de un importante combate. El 19 de mayo de 1813 tuvo lugar un enfrentamiento entre los aliados ruso-prusianos y los soldados de Napoleón. Más de 1700 soldados del Cuerpo de York y 2000 franceses cayeron. En 1913, es decir, 100 años después, se inauguró un monumento en el lugar del combate.
