La colina del bosque es una cordillera al sur de la ciudad de Rheine. Se extiende desde el Ems hacia el oeste y se convierte en el Thieberg. En el punto más alto de la colina del bosque se encuentra el depósito de agua potable de la ciudad de Rheine.
Las canteras cerradas son parte del área protegida del bosque. El área se extiende al sur del centro de la ciudad de Rheine y al sur de Dorenkamp, un barrio de Rheine. Al oeste transcurre la B 70, al este transcurre la B 481 y fluye el Ems.
