Al norte del barrio de Ciutat Vella se encuentra el Parc de la Ciutadella, diseñado por Josep Fonsseré i Mestre con motivo de la exposición universal de 1888. Actualmente alberga el Parlament de Catalunya y el Zoológico de Barcelona, cuyo residente más famoso era el gorila albino “Copito de Nieve” que murió en el 2003 a causa de cancer de piel.
