Rodeada de cafés, bares y restaurantes, esta animada plaza sirvió probablemente como foro en la época romana y sigue siendo una parte importante de la ciudad en la actualidad. La plaza debe su nombre actual a la iglesia de Santiago, construida en el siglo XII pero arrasada en el siglo XVI porque su proximidad se consideraba peligrosa para la Ciudadela recién construida. Durante los mercadillos navideños, los chalets de madera sustituyen a las habituales terrazas de la plaza y el aroma del vino caliente flota en el aire.
