Circondata da caffè, bar e ristoranti, questa vivace piazza fungeva probabilmente da foro in epoca romana ed è ancora oggi una delle piazze più importanti della città. La piazza deve il suo nome attuale alla chiesa di Saint Jacques, costruita nel XII secolo ma rasa al suolo nel XVI secolo perché la sua vicinanza era considerata pericolosa per la Cittadella appena costruita. Durante i Mercatini di Natale, gli chalet di legno sostituiscono le consuete terrazze e l'aroma del vin brulé* aleggia nell'aria.
