Dit levendige plein, omringd door cafés, bars en restaurants, deed in de Romeinse tijd waarschijnlijk dienst als forum en is vandaag de dag nog steeds een van de belangrijkste pleinen van de stad. Het plein dankt zijn huidige naam aan de kerk van Saint Jacques, die in de 12e eeuw werd gebouwd maar in de 16e eeuw werd afgebroken omdat de nabijheid ervan gevaarlijk werd geacht voor de nieuw gebouwde Citadel. Tijdens de kerstmarkten vervangen houten chalets de gebruikelijke terrassen en waait de geur van glühwein* door de lucht.
*Alcoholmisbruik is gevaarlijk voor de gezondheid, dus drink met mate.
