Con sus agujas perforando el cielo a más de 75 metros, a menudo se confunde con la catedral. Fundada en el siglo XI, esta abadía fue una de las más ricas de la Edad Media. Del edificio sólo queda su elegante fachada, pero el refectorio, el claustro y las dependencias de los monjes siguen intactos. El Centre d'Interprétation de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine (Centro de Interpretación de la Arquitectura y el Patrimonio) se encuentra en la antigua residencia del abad, totalmente restaurada. Alrededor de una maqueta translúcida de la abadía de Saint-Jean-des-Vignes con un bello efecto decorativo, paneles explicativos ofrecen las claves para comprender la ciudad y su patrimonio.
No se pierda el majestuoso refectorio.
Una novedad de la visita es la posibilidad de entrar en el torreón exterior, recientemente restaurado.
