En el corazón de Bernay, el museo está instalado en la antigua morada de la abadía de Notre-Dame. Construido a principios del siglo XVII, su arquitectura se inspira en las casas solariegas del País de Auge. Tras la Revolución Francesa, la ciudad de Bernay adquirió el edificio para albergar su museo municipal, inaugurado en 1891.
Museo de Francia desde 2002, el Museo de Bellas Artes de Bernay custodia una colección polifacética típica de las instituciones del siglo XIX. Desde su creación en 1866, por resolución del ayuntamiento, el museo es un vector de conocimiento, y su exposición permanente refleja objetos de arte y artefactos históricos, combinando estética y memoria para iluminar e interrogar a los visitantes sobre el mundo que les rodea.
