La torre se distingue de sus contemporáneas por su planta trapezoidal y su escalera de caracol situada en un torreón. Aparte de estas características, su arquitectura es típica de las torres maestras de la región de Midi, construidas entre los siglos XII y XIV. Símbolo en primer lugar del poder comunal y luego real, la torre pudo tener también una función defensiva y servir de residencia temporal en tiempos de crisis. En la actualidad, la torre alberga varias exposiciones: una sala está dedicada a Nino Ferrer, otra a exposiciones temporales, y en los dos pisos superiores se encuentra la exposición permanente "Montcuq en la Edad Media". Contemple el impresionante panorama desde la terraza de la azotea.
