De toren onderscheidt zich van zijn tijdgenoten door de trapeziumvormige plattegrond en de wenteltrap in een torentje. Afgezien van deze kenmerken is de architectuur typerend voor de meestertorens van de Midi, gebouwd tussen de 12e en 14e eeuw. De toren was in de eerste plaats een symbool van de commerciële en vervolgens koninklijke macht, maar had mogelijk ook een defensieve functie en diende als tijdelijk onderkomen in tijden van crisis. De toren huisvest nu een aantal tentoonstellingen: een zaal is gewijd aan Nino Ferrer, een andere aan tijdelijke tentoonstellingen en op de bovenste twee verdiepingen is de permanente tentoonstelling "Montcuq in de Middeleeuwen". Geniet van het adembenemende panorama vanaf het dakterras.
